Lions Earn Conference Sweep Of Scranton

MEDIA, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine volleyball team won for the second-straight night and fifth consecutive outing overall as the Lions swept Penn State Scranton 3-0 (25-4, 25-9, 25-8) on Thursday.

Amanda Floyd (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) and Lexie Berry (Brookhaven, Pa./Daegu) both collected seven kills, while Anna Ramirez (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) tallied five and Katie Snyder (Wilmington, Del./Dickinson) and Sydney Terrell (Walkersville, Md./St. John's Catholic Prep) both had four.

Laura Jezyk (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) collected 14 assists and Sophie Scrivo (Chester, Conn./Valley Regional) amassed 12 helpers. Jezyk also notched six of Brandywine's 19 service aces, while Terrell had five aces and Floyd produced four.

Defensively, Suzie Alvarenga (Fullerton, Calif./Notre Dame Academy) tallied a team-best eight digs and Ramirez added seven.

Brandywine scored the first 12 points of the opening set and eased to a 25-4 victory.

The Lions trailed 3-0 early in the second period, but produced a 14-1 run capped by four aces and a kill from Jezyk to take command. Brandywine held a 19-9 edge before kills from Berry, Ramirez and Scrivo and an ace by Angela Pagliotti (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown) put the set away for the Lions.

Brandywine used an 11-2 run to build a 17-6 lead during the final frame and never looked back, winning the set going away, 25-8.

Brandywine (6-2, 4-0 PSUAC) will look to remain unbeaten in the PSUAC when the Lions visit Penn State Wilkes-Barre Saturday at noon.
