Baseball heads to Florida for spring training

YORK, Pa. — Baseball season is almost here, and the Penn State York baseball team is headed to Florida during spring break for spring training, the perfect opportunity for players to focus on improving their baseball skills while gaining game experience prior to the start of the season. The team will leave March 5 and travel to Plant City, Florida, for a series of workouts and exhibitions.

This is the fourth year that the York team has traveled to Florida to play a number of club teams and practice in a warmer climate. The games are played through the National Club Baseball Association (NCBA). 

In Florida, York will face Bowling Green State University at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, March 6; Western Michigan University at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 7; and South Dakota State University at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 9. York then returns home to take on the Community College of Allegheny County at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 12.

All games are free and open to the public. The team plays its home games at Shryock Field, located at 2640 S. Queen St. in York.

At a special event on April 22, York will take on Penn State Mont Alto in a doubleheader at PeoplesBank Park, home of the York Revolution, a professional baseball team based in York. The games, set for 1 and 3 p.m., and are free and open to the public.
