Brandywine Bounces Back With 20-Point Victory

LANCASTER, Pa. – One day after dropping a conference game at Penn State Mont Alto, the Penn State Brandywine women's basketball team rebounded by defeating Lancaster Bible 65-45 on Wednesday night.

Brandywine was held scoreless for more than three minutes to open the game, falling behind 8-0, but a three-pointer from Amanda Floyd (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) sparked the Lions' offense as it began an 18-0 surge. Floyd and Kiara Koger (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) combined for 15 points during the run, while the Brandywine defense held the Chargers off the scoreboard for more than eight minutes.

Floyd continued to fuel the Brandywine offense, knocking down a trio of second quarter three-pointers and scoring 11 points overall during the second period as the Lions brought at 34-21 edge into intermission.

Lancaster Bible trimmed the margin as low as 12 points at the 5:02 mark of the third quarter; however, Athena Brombacher (Vacaville, Calif./Will C. Wood) answered with the game's next eight points and Brandywine poured in 12 consecutive markers overall to swell the advantage to 24 points less than three minutes later.

Floyd finished the night with a team-high 19 points and became the third player in team history to surpass the 1,500-point mark for her career. Floyd, who hauled in 11 rebounds for her third double-double of the season, owns 1,514 points in 98 career games.

Brombacher also notched a double-double, producing 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting, along with a game-high 13 boards. Anaiyah Allen (Lutz, Fla./Steinbrenner) added 11 points, seven rebounds and five steals, while Koger registered 10 points, six rebounds and five assists.

Brandywine's defense limited LBC to 24 percent shooting from the field and forced 22 turnovers. The Lions shot 36 percent from the floor and outrebounded the Chargers 47-38.

Brandywine (6-8, 5-4 PSUAC) returns home Saturday for a noon matchup against Penn State Schuylkill.
