Women's Basketball Falls to Penn State Shenango

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. - Penn State Schuylkill Women's Basketball lost their conference matchup to Penn State Shenango on Saturday. 

In the initial phases of the contest, both teams engaged in a point-swapping exchange. A bucket by Ava Novak (New Media, PA / Southern Columbia High School) at the 8:17 mark in the second period narrowed Schuylkill's gap to 18-16. Shenango then initiated a 7-0 run, expanding their lead to 9 points, but Katelynn Himes (Frackville, PA / North Schuylkill High School) responded with back-to-back scores, closing the deficit to 25-19. Shenango entered the second half with a 33-24 lead.

Shenango further increased their advantage to 43-28 with an early run at the start of the second half. Schuylkill managed to reduce their deficit to 12 points after an 8-5 stretch concluded the third period. A late run in the fourth quarter widened Shenango's lead to 20 points with seconds remaining in the contest.

Novak led Schuylkill in scoring with 13 points, while Himes, Malak Mowafi (Iselin, NJ / John F Kennedy Memorial High School), and Serena Jones (Tamaqua, PA / Tamaqua High School) all finished with 10 points in the loss.

Schuylkill (1-8 overall, 0-3 PSUAC) will remain in conference play for their next matchup at Penn State Hazleton. Start time for that contest is 6:00 p.m.
