Men's and Women's Basketball Championship Finalists Set for Sunday

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The 2019 PSUAC basketball playoffs are nearing their end, as four teams have earned a shot at the titles. Penn State Lehigh Valley and Penn State Beaver will square off in the women's championship game, while Penn State York will face Penn State Wilkes-Barre for the men's trophy. Both championship games will be played on Sunday, Feb. 24th at the Bryce Jordan Center on the Penn State University Park campus. 

The women's championship game will start at 1:30 p.m., with the men's game to follow at 4:00 p.m. Both games will be available via a live stream, courtesy of Penn State DuBois marketing. The games can be found here.

In the opener, Beaver will try to end Lehigh Valley's conference unbeaten streak and capture their fifth conference title in seven seasons. Lehigh Valley will look to continue their conference dominance in what would be their first conference title since the program's inception. Beaver gave Lehigh Valley one of their tougher tests during the regular season, but took a 10-point loss on the road as Lehigh Valley cruised through conference play.

Beaver is led by West Division Player of the Year Diamond Thomas, while Lehigh Valley will lean on East Division Rookie of the Year Kion Andrews to carry them to a championship. Lehigh Valley took out divisional foe Penn State Scranton on Tuesday before knocking out Penn State Fayette in the semifinals on Friday. Beaver, meanwhile, hosted and dispatched of Penn State DuBois and Penn State Brandywine to punch their ticket to the championship game. 

In the men's nightcap, Wilkes-Barre looks to cement their spot at the top of the conference and win their first ever conference championship. They'll have to knock off divisional opponent York, who won three conference titles in a row starting in 2012-13, and looks to climb the mountain again for the first time since 2015. Wilkes-Barre took down rival Penn State Hazleton in the quarterfinals, needing overtime to do so, before knocking out Penn State Shenango on Friday. Meanwhile, York won two tightly contested games, beating Brandywine by four at home on Tuesday night before upsetting West number one seed Penn State Mont Alto on the road on Friday.

Wilkes-Barre, led by Khalil White, managed to sweep the season series with York, who looks to Justin Luton to lead them to the championship and avenge those regular season losses. 

Admission is free for Championship Sunday. Spectators may park in the Beaver Stadium West lot or Bryce Jordan Center lot and should enter through Gate B of the BJC. All spectators must follow BJC policies, including bag restrictions.
