Senior Spotlight: Abagail Mecca, Penn State Scranton

Welcome to our Senior Spotlight series. In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, the PSUAC had to cancel its fall and winter sport seasons. This prevented several student-athletes from receiving a proper senior day and minimized opportunities for Player of the Week awards. In its place, we will highlight seniors from around the conference throughout the remainder of the semester.

See more Senior Spotlight highlights on our Twitter (@psuac) and Instagram (psuac)!

How did your Penn State education prepare you for life after graduation? Penn State prepared me by culminating a campus that embraced and celebrated all learning and teaching styles that allowed me to become the most successful individual I can be.

How do you hope to be remembered by teammates and coaches? I hope to be remembered as someone who did their best to try and help build a program for all the wonderful women that will attend Penn State in the future.

What is your favorite memory from playing your sport at Penn State? All of us actually being excited to run sprints on Coach Matt’s first day with our team.

What is the best advice you ever received from a coach or teammate that you would share with other student-athletes? You’re a student-athlete, not an athlete-student. Don’t hesitate to bring those flash cards to practice to study for your big exam.

What are you most looking forward to post graduation? Or in your transition to University Park (or other campus) to finish your degree? Being able to have just a work-life balance, rather than a work-life-school-sports balance.

What are some of the tools or skills that you learned through all the years of playing your sport that you plan to instill once you enter the workforce? Make your workouts into games and mix them up all the time to keep them interesting instead of doing the same boring thing every day.

What impact did athletics have on your experience as a college student? What is your favorite memory outside of athletics during your time as a student-athlete? Athletics were a huge part of building a social life at campus and during my college experience. Any and all classes with, gemstone of a processor, Bill Borer were some of my favorite memories from Penn State.

Please use this space to thank anyone you wish to acknowledge for their support during your academic and athletic career. I could not have made it without my brother, Jord, Tab, and Carson & of course my lovely parents.
